The City

28 km north-west from Paris, Cergy is located on the right side of the Oise river and in the geographical region of the “French Vexin”.

Cergy has a rural history, with traces dating back to the 11th century. Some of these traces can still be found today, especially in the “old village” area. A small farmers’ village 70 years ago, Cergy never grew beyond 3.000 inhabitants until 1970. Since then, the city has experienced an unprecedented demographic growth and is reaching today over 67.000 inhabitants, becoming the second most populated city of the Val d’Oise department. The so-called “new” districts, including the “Saint Christophe” district where our Valeo site is located, are hosting the large majority of the city inhabitants.

Cergy belongs to the Cergy-Pontoise agglomeration, which gathers 13 cities and 207.000 inhabitants. This prosperous agglomeration gathers a dynamic economical area that includes sites of major automotive, aviation, defense, cosmetics and logistics groups, but also many universities as well as prestigious business and technical schools.

Turned towards green mobility, the city has a bike sharing system (VélO2) which stations spread throughout the city, which is also equipped with many cycle tracks. In addition, the city possesses a now electrified buses network (STIVO), serving all city districts. Those buses are equipped with lower floors to allow accessibility, including to persons with reduced mobility and young children. Since 2008, Cergy has also reached the “internet city” label, and was one of the first French cities to be fully connected through optic fiber.

The Leisure activities

Cergy has a small fluvial marina from which cruises on the Oise river are organized during the summer months.

A multicultural city where everyone feels at home, Cergy spreads around a monumental work from Dani Karavan built in the 1980’s: the “Axe Majeur”. It is a remarkable viewpoint on the agglomeration, and further away on Paris. This is the place for sports lovers, but also for movie makers, who are numerous to record movie scenes and video clips.

For those who love sports, Cergy has a generous offer: ice ring and hockey tournaments at the Aren’Ice (training center of the French national hockey team), but also surf, water skiing, beach, barbecue with friends and family, pedalo, treas climbing, or rafting at the “Ile de Loisir de Cergy Pontoise”. In Cergy, you are certain to find everything you are looking for.

Beyond Cergy, its “Axe Majeur”, its marina or its nautical base, your footsteps will maybe take you a little bit further, in just as rich areas like the medieval fortified city of Pontoise, Auvers sur Oise and its Van Gogh museum, but also the large forests area which represent 20% of the department’s surface, such as the Hautil forest in Cergy, but also the state owned forest of Isle Adam or Carnelle, less than 20 minutes away by car.
